About the Board of CommissionersThe corporate powers of the township are vested in a seven member Board of Commissioners that acts as the legislative branch of the government with responsibility for all policy decisions as well as annual budget approval. The Commissioners are elected, one from each ward, and serve on a part-time basis for four-year terms. Municipal elections for Commissioners are held bi-annually with an alternating four seats and three seats subject to election or re-election. The state code sets the maximum salary that Commissioners could be paid based upon township population. The Commissioners are also reimbursed for any costs that they incur out-of-pocket for township business expenses as part of their office.The Commissioners appoint major officials such as the Township Manager, Solicitor, Engineer, Police Chief, Fire Marshal and Township Secretary. In addition, the Commissioners appoint and are assisted with policy recommendations by several advisory boards and committees. The Commissioners are also supported by the autonomous Zoning Hearing Board, pursuant to state law, in dealing with interpretation of the township’s zoning ordinances.2015 brought three new commissioners to the board in wards 1,3,7. In 2017, all candidates are incumbents with 10,16, and 12 years of experience respectively, Ira Tackel has been Board President and Ron Feldman Vice-President for four years. Michael KleinUD TAX COLLECTOR: Leslie Nylund, UD Tax Collector for 20 years, is not seeking reelection. Michael E. Klein, a 35-year resident of Upper Dublin, is running as Democrat to replace her. Mike is a real estate lawyer and title agent who routinely handles large sums of money. He's well known in UD having served 10 years on the Jr. Athletic Association board, with 4 years its president, and head banker for UD's Monte Carlo Night. He's honest, organized and personable, traits necessary to be UD's Tax Collector for the schools, township and county. Mike's children graduated from UDHS
